Miguel Lozada, Jr. ESQ Co-Founder | President

Miguel is a product of Puerto Rican parents who settled in Queens New York (NY). Moving from Queens, NY to Long Island, NY Miguel was first introduced to the game of lacrosse through his middle school football coach. 

Miguel is an alum of Liberty University with an undergraduate Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice/Strategic Intelligence and a graduate MBA degree and was one of the pioneers to bring men's lacrosse back to Liberty University at the MCLA level. Miguel graduated from the Maurice A.Deane School of Law at Hofstra University in May of 2019. Miguel is currently a practicing attorney in the NYC area. 

It has been Miguel's lifelong dream to bring the game of lacrosse to his homeland of Puerto Rico. The opportunities afforded to Miguel through lacrosse is something that he hopes to share with the families and youth of Puerto Rico.

Jose Esquilin
VP | Communications

Jose was born in Caguas, Puerto Rico but grew up in Florida. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the US Navy and spent the next 26 years serving as a Hospital Corpsman. During his active duty time, he completed his MBA with a concentration in Human Resources.

Graphics and photography were always a side venture, but in 2013 when he retired from the Navy, it became his primary working focus.

He joined Puerto Rico Lacrosse in 2016 with an established passion for Lacrosse Jose designs the graphics, and takes all photography and produces video shorts for Puerto Rico Lacrosse.

In addition, he oversees our social media posts and providing marketing strategy for the future of Puerto Rico Lacrosse. As with all the members, Jose has joined the team with a clear passion and drive to achieve the ultimate goal of bringing the game of Lacrosse to Puerto Rico.

Bianca Díaz
Head of Social Media & Marketing

Bianca is a proud Boricua whose passion for lacrosse began in 9th grade and continued through her collegiate years at the University of Central Florida. With over a decade of coaching experience at the highest club levels, she has dedicated herself to developing young athletes and growing the sport she loves.

As the Head of Social Media, Marketing, and Branding for Puerto Rico Lacrosse, Bianca plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s voice and identity, ensuring its mission and impact reach audiences around the world.

Her creative vision and strategic direction have been essential in amplifying Puerto Rico Lacrosse’s presence on the global stage.

Bianca is also a strong advocate for accessibility in sports. As someone who is hard of hearing and wears hearing aids, she brings lived experience to the conversation around inclusivity in lacrosse—working to ensure that athletes of all abilities feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Her work is grounded in a deep commitment to community and culture, with the goal of giving back and expanding opportunities for future generations of Puerto Rican athletes.

Sophia Lugo-Nieves
Director of National Teams

Sophia Lugo is a Chicago native with a deep-rooted passion for lacrosse and a commitment to growing the game at every level. A former player and captain at Indiana University, Sophia has built an extensive coaching and leadership career spanning youth, high school, and international lacrosse.

She currently serves as the National Teams Director for Puerto Rico Lacrosse, where she plays a key role in the development and operation of the organization’s national programs. Prior to this role, she served as the U20 Head Coach and Women’s National Team Assistant Coach, helping lead Puerto Rico to success on the international stage, including an undefeated run at the 2019 U19 World Championship and a 5th place finish at the 2024 U20 World Championship.

Based in Chicago, Sophia has also made a lasting impact locally through her work with Evanston Township High School, Lakeshore Lacrosse, and Outreach with Lacrosse & Schools (OWLS), where she focuses on mentorship and increasing access to the sport in underserved communities. In addition, she serves as a lead clinician with US Lacrosse’s Sankofa Clinic Series, bringing the game to players across the country.

Sophia’s work is driven by her passion for teaching, her pride in her roots, and her commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation of athletes, both in Chicago and for Puerto Rico Lacrosse.
