Andrew Whitley named to Puerto Rico Men’s Lacrosse National Team Coaching Staff.
17 APRIL 2017 — FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Puerto Rico Lacrosse is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Whitley as Assistant Coach for the Puerto Rico Lacrosse Men’s National Team. Whitley, who is currently the Associate Head Coach of the Fairfield University Men’s Lacrosse Team, will remain in that position, in addition to assuming his coaching responsibilities for Puerto Rico Lacrosse.
“I am really looking forward to identifying, developing and preparing our players for the 2018 World Games next summer. Participating at the international level has always been a professional goal of mine. I’m grateful for the opportunity to do so with Coach Ramos, the PR Lacrosse staff and Board,” said Whitley.
Whitley is in his 8th season with the Fairfield men's lacrosse team. He was named the Associate Head Coach following the 2015 campaign.
This season he assumed the responsibility of coordinating the Fairfield defense in addition to working with the team’s goalkeepers and faceoff specialists. Whitley is also heavily involved in the program’s recruiting efforts and the day-to-day operations of the men’s lacrosse office.
As assistant coach for the Puerto Rico Lacrosse Men’s National team, he will serve as the team’s defensive coordinator and work with the team’s goalkeepers, faceoff specialists and man-down unit.
“Puerto Rico Lacrosse is committed to developing and bringing a highly competitive team to the 2018 World Games. We wanted to make sure that we have a talented coaching staff that will meet our on-field expectations. Just as important, we wanted our coaches to also embrace and support the mission of Puerto Rico Lacrosse. We found that in our Head Coach, Jeff Ramos and feel the same way in Andy Whitley as Assistant Coach,” said Nathan Lowmaster, President of Puerto Rico Lacrosse.
As a student-athlete, Whitley earned a pair of varsity letters at Franklin & Marshall College. The two-time All-Centennial Conference goalkeeper guided the Diplomats to an NCAA postseason berth in 1995. He graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 1996 ranked among the program’s all-time leaders in saves and save percentage. Whitley began his collegiate career at Alfred University and made two NCAA postseason trips with the Saxons.
Whitley currently resides in Fairfield, CT with his wife, Marie Muhvic, an Associate Director of Athletics and the Director of Development for Athletics and Recreation at Fairfield University.
